Janice was there to welcome us and we had time to peruse all the goodies that Colin had brought for us – needless to say we managed to find a few items that we couldn’t live without!

Following an introduction from Janice where we looked at some pieces that she had brought and explored the idea of tassels and military braids, we spent some time listening to Miranda, who gave us an insight into her journey with goldwork and provided us with some beautiful pieces to look at.  She then talked about her piece for the competition and explained how the design had been developed and we were able to look at the piece itself.  Some of the other members of the group had also brought some work for us to look at and admire and it was interesting to see the different interpretations with goldwork techniques.

Angela Old from the Wyedean Embroiderers told us about a day looking at Or Nué techniques, using different threads and fabrics to be held on 3^rd June and issued an invitation for members of the group to attend.  The results of the workshop will be published at a later date.

The practical theme for the day was working with kid and Janice gave us some ideas and let us loose with fabric and a frame and plenty of materials with which to experiment.  This also gave us the chance to chat with our neighbours and compare notes on what we were doing – a great help to those of us who are relative beginners.

All too soon it was time for tea – great cookies!! – and a final chance to buy a few more essentials before making our way back to Birmingham.
