Reference Books Concerning the Pienza CopeOPUS ANGLICANUM - The Arts Council 1963 Catalogue of Exhibition 26 September to 24 November 1963. EMBROIDERY, A HISTORY - Pamela Warner. 1991. ISBN 0-7134-6106-3. ENGLISH EMBROIDERY - A.F. Kendrick. Re-issued in 1915 by Batsford. Reference Books Concerning Church WorkCHURCH NEEDLEWORK A useful little book containing a mine of information if you are able to patiently comb through it. Old fashioned and appears to be boring, but it is to delve into. CHURCH NEEDLEWORK Beryl Dean revolutionised the ceremonial textiles in churches and cathedrals. The books she wrote are classics and contain information and patterns for things ecclesiastical as well as ordinary information on framing up and using threads and stitches for other types of embroidery. THE SECULAR AND ECCLESIASTICAL TREASURES There is much packed into this book about the history of Europe and the many objects in the museum. It is a good translation although the meaning of some words has to be sought on occasions as it is not in common use. Other Reference BooksTHE BIG BOOK OF SLING AND ROPE BRAIDS The book boasts over 250 braids. With a small amount of knowledge it should be reasonably easy to work out how to do the braids. However, no reference to metallic threads and it depends on knowledge of weaving yarns. But the movements are all there to make the braids. BIRGITTINSKA TEXTILIER - BRIDGETTINE TEXTILES Over 35 illustrations, many in very good, clear colour. It would be possible to work a small piece from the photograph. The photographs are of specific work, which carry very good descriptions of methods and materials used and the possible date of the work. Swedish and English sit side by side on each page. THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK -- 125 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE The book was published in 1997 to accompany the exhibition of that year, but is now no longer in print. There are a number of examples in goldwork, including the Queen's coronation robe and that of the Queen Mother. Also featured is Beryl Dean's Churchwork sampler of 1931.
